Maya Kartika Sari loves the coffee shops in the capital of Indonesia, the world's fourth largest coffee producer. As Sales and Product Manager Food & Beverages at a. hartrodt Indonesia in Jakarta, she starts the day with an Americano. Now in harvest time, a. hartrodt Indonesia is positioning itself for the niche market of coffee logistics in order to offer Indonesian exporters customized sea freight services as scheduled from August. "We have a lot of experience with green coffee and know the customers' requirements," she says. According to the statistics authority BPS – Statistics Indonesia, the most important target markets are the USA, India, Egypt and Germany.

Green coffee shipped in bulk

At the end of the 17th century, the Dutch brought the first coffee plants to the Southeast Asian island state. Today, there are plantations on Java, Sumatra, Sulawesi, Bali and Papua. Green coffee is shipped in bulk in containers – for example "from the port of Jakarta to Southeast Asia or Switzerland, from Semarang to Jebel Ali (United Arab Emirates) or Houston, Texas (USA)", as Maya Kartika Sari explains.

Food fumigation against pests

In the Food & Beverages team in Indonesia, 13 people in the offices in Jakarta, Semarang and Surabaya are experts in coffee. "We can cover all parts of the country," emphasizes Maya Kartika Sari. Most exporters have their own warehouse, where a. hartrodt can provide customs clearance as well as value-added services such as food fumigation after loading into containers. "Before transportation, most buyers require the unroasted coffee to be fumigated against insects and other pests," she explains. Certificates of origin and phytosanitary certificates as well as those from the International Coffee Organization (ICO) are also possible on behalf of the shipper.

For coffee logistics, a. hartrodt Indonesia offers a wide range of services for individual customer requirements. "We combine experience and expertise, passion and dedication, tradition and innovation," summarizes Maya Kartika Sari over a hot latte.
