From ordering T-shirts to finding your favourite cereals at the supermarket at the click of a mouse, this job lets you fulfil all of our clients’ wishes.
We all use and consume goods every day without thinking about where they come from. But that new smartphone, those trendy trainers and fresh ingredients for your crispy chicken burger don’t stock themselves.
Forwarding and logistics services managers make these things possible. You will make sure that anything and everything is available everywhere. You will organise global transport. You will arrange the transshipment and storage of goods. You will tell clients how their products will be moved from the production facility to the consumer quickly and safely.
Your responsibilities in this field are highly varied. They include informing clients of the different modes of transport, matching prices, allocating projects to ocean and freight carriers, airlines and lorry fleets, and taking out insurance policies. Your work requires you to keep track of the applicable customs regulations and oversee cooperation between the people and organisations involved in the global logistics chain.

The apprenticeship is a component of a work–study programme and accompanies regular part-time instruction at the local vocational school for forwarding, logistics & transport.

For all who wish to pursue studies with a practical focus

Our study options combine wish with reality. Here is an overview:

We offer, in addition to traditional training for the commercial professions, various dual study or training programs relating to business administration. The following “tri-qualifying” training programs combine on-the-job training, vocational school and a degree program. Ultimately you will have two degrees to your credit: one in business administration for freight forwarding and logistics services, the other a Bachelor of Arts in business administration with a concentration in logistics. So, where would you like to go?

  • Hamburg baccalaureate in logistics, Bachelor of Arts degree (B.A.) (Hamburg only)
  • Bavarian baccalaureate in logistics, Bachelor of Arts degree (B.A.) (Munich only)
  • Dual studies in logistics management, Bachelor of Arts degree (Dusseldorf only)
  • Young female at screen – Thumbnail

Would you like to someday manage a team, a department, or even a subsidiary? Are you many-sided in your interests, open and ambitious, and are you absolutely determined to spend a portion of your professional life abroad? If so, then our tri-qualifying training programmes, which offer two degrees for one programme of training, are exactly what you are looking for.

Our tri-qualifying training programmes combine the traditional business education needed to manage freight forwarding operations and logistics services with a baccalaureate programme in business administration. It will provide you not only with solid practical knowledge but also with extensive theoretical knowledge in a broad range of areas. Topics covered include, for example, the fundamentals of marketing, business informatics, commercial and private law, cost and performance accounting, business management, occupational and organisational psychology, the fundamentals of tax law, logistics law, and project management.

During a tri-qualifying training programme, you will acquire the knowledge necessary to pursue a career within the company as a junior executive. And best of all: the company will assume the cost of your tuition, while you will receive a training allowance.

Bear in mind, however, that what is true elsewhere is no less true in a tri-qualifying training program: no pains, no gains. Before your career planning gains momentum, you must, like any other trainee, work your way through our various departments and put your capabilities to the test. You will be organising transport operations around the world, looking after the transshipment and warehousing of goods, advising customers on how to get their products quickly and intact from the point of production to the consumer.

Once you have completed the second year of your training, you will be able to apply the knowledge you have acquired during an eight-week internship abroad, demonstrate your ability to work independently, and broaden your inter-cultural skills.

Training begins: 1 August of each year:
    Hamburg, Dusseldorf

    1 September of each year:

    Munich

    Duration of training program:

    3 to 4 years

What we expect you to bring:

    • A secondary school university-qualifying diploma [Abitur] with at least 10 points in mathematics, German and English
    • A breadth of interests, a willingness to learn, and a thirst for knowledge
    • Flexibility and open-mindedness
    • Enthusiasm for organisation and planning
    • Highly-developed communication skills
    • A keen interest in other people and cultures
    • An interest in global economic interrelationships
    • Mobility, a desire to live and work abroad
    • Readiness to assume responsibility
    • Some initial management experience
    • A very good command of English and a second foreign language

In addition to their work at the company, our apprentices are keeping busy, be it with travelling, internships, gatherings or swapping stories and experiences. By organising apprenticeship projects, you are demonstrating that you can work independently within a team.

It is also the perfect way to exercise your creativity. You have the opportunity to come up with, refine and implement your own ideas. Are you curious? Visit our social media to find out more.

Internships abroad: For all who want to live and work abroad

Hardly any other industry offers such good opportunities to work abroad as logistics. Worldwide globalisation with its constant efforts to optimise processes in favour of the smooth exchange of goods ensures that work processes can be harmonised and provided globally.

Whether you are able to use the knowledge you have acquired during your training and be competitive anywhere in the world is something you can already try out with us during your training. For example, we offer every third to fourth apprentice the opportunity to do a 4 to 8 week internship in one of our worldwide branches in the second year of their apprenticeship.

The focus is on acquiring intercultural social skills, gaining professional experience, developing language skills and building professional networks. Of course, having fun is also important, so the choice of destination and location is made carefully and in consultation with you, taking into account both your personal and company interests. Anyone who wants to can apply for a traineeship. If there are more applicants than places, an internal selection procedure decides who gets the place.

Funding programmes for internships abroad

In order to make the implementation of internships financially viable both for trainees and for us as a company, financial support programmes such as Erasmus+ or AusbildungWeltweit are used. When claiming the benefits, we regularly call on the competent support of the Mobility Agency Arbeit und Leben in Hamburg, so that the often time-consuming application procedures suddenly become quite simple for all involved.

With the support of all parties involved, we have been able to facilitate over 35 internships abroad worldwide since 2010, from Australia to America, from Chile to China, from Ireland to Italy.

Find out more about this in the video "From Hamburg to the World", which was produced in cooperation with the National Agency Education for Europe. Three trainees talk about their very personal experiences during their internships abroad.

Events

Every year, we are represented at various trade fairs in the greater Hamburg area to introduce ourselves and the career opportunities we offer. Our experienced staff and apprentices are on site to share their experiences and provide tips and assistance. If you’d like to meet us, you can find us here:
