Customers of a. hartrodt can save time through early, legally compliant CO2 reporting and keep an eye on their carbon footprint at all times. "We proactively provide very high-quality CO2 reporting compliant with the European standard EN 16258," says Jan Nassauer, IT Business Consultant at a. hartrodt in Hamburg. The greenhouse gas emissions are calculated on the basis of consignment data. Technically, this works via an interface from the market leader EcoTransIT World. "The customer selects the reporting frequency flexibly, on request we can even offer this in real time," says Jan Nassauer.

First companies obligated in the 2024 financial year

CO2 reporting will gradually become mandatory for European companies. The European Green Deal wants the continent to be climate neutral by 2050. On 5 January 2023, the Corporate Sustainable Responsibility Directive (CSRD) came into force. "As a result, in addition to listed large companies, many medium-sized enterprises will be obliged to report in the 2024 financial year," informs Stefan Goestl, Airfreight Manager Germany.

Cross-divisional team of experts for CO2 reporting

"We invest a lot in our CO2 reporting service and have formed a cross-divisional team with experts in air and sea freight, processes, IT and law," Jan Nassauer explains. The specialists look for environmentally friendly transport options across modes and continents. The share of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) is 2 per cent worldwide. In sea freight, synthetic fuels such as ammonia or methanol offer an environmentally friendly perspective, in the medium term also Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). Electric vehicles are an option for pre-carriage and onward carriage.

"Even though the overall development is still quite open, we are taking responsibility for climate protection," Jan Nassauer emphasises. In 2023, a milestone will be the international standard ISO 14083 for the reporting of greenhouse gas emissions arising from transport chain operations. "In the future, we would like to offer our customers individual compensation options," Stefan Goestl announces.
