Since October 1, 2025, Nuno da Silva has been responsible for the important sea freight division at a. hartrodt at its headquarters in Hamburg as General Manager Seafreight Germany. Born in Portugal, he has more than 30 years of experience in international logistics, including 20 years in management positions at well-known freight forwarders, most recently at Dachser. “The industry is under great pressure to change,” says Nuno da Silva, referring to geopolitical uncertainties, technological developments, environmental regulations, and volatile market dynamics: “That’s precisely why I’m excited about the opportunity to actively shape the future of a traditional family business with a long history.”
From Portugal to Hamburg
Nuno da Silva grew up in Portugal, a country with a long seafaring tradition, in the Algarve region, before following his parents to Hamburg: “As a child and teenager, I spent as much time as possible surfing.” Given his personal and professional enthusiasm for maritime matters, he leads his team at a. hartrodt like a ship’s crew: “Development is only possible if everyone takes responsibility and all pull together."
“The supreme discipline of communication”
While Portuguese seafarers distinguished themselves by discovering new routes, Nuno da Silva emphasizes his strategy: “We must organize transport as resiliently as possible and proactively inform customers.” By simplifying processes and making targeted use of digitalization, the a. hartrodt team can serve customers even more closely and efficiently. “Trust and quality are central, both in operational processing and in the supreme discipline of communication,” he emphasizes. According to him, black swan events such as the pandemic show “how vulnerable global supply chains are and how important it is to act flexibly and transparently.”
Sea freight is offered by a. hartrodt Germany in Hamburg, Duesseldorf, Frankfurt, Hanover, Munich, Nuremberg, Stuttgart, and Wuppertal. The team consists of 191 young talents as well as experienced specialists. This is a combination that Nuno da Silva particularly appreciates: “You couldn't image anything better.”
