Markus Felix has been working at a. hartrodt Mexico since October 2025: “I emigrated and my goal is to stay here long term.” At the turn of the year, the 25-year-old will take up his new position as Sales Executive in Mexico City, after spending his first month familiarizing himself with air freight and then moving on to the sea freight department at the beginning of November. Latin America's second-largest economy has close trade ties with the US, and over 2,000 German companies manufacture locally.

Internship abroad at a. hartrodt in Belgium and Switzerland

Markus Felix has known a. hartrodt since completing his dual training in freight forwarding, which he finished in 2023 with a bachelor's degree in logistics from Hamburg. The family business gave him the opportunity to work internationally at an early stage: During the pandemic, in 2021, the Dresden native completed an internship abroad in Belgium and Switzerland lasting several weeks. But ever since he was able to visit his exchange student in Monterrey in 2018, Mexico has been his absolute dream destination.

“As a salesperson, you help to determine the company’s success”

Now, “a circle has been closed” for the young freight forwarder, who already gained sales experience during his training: “I enjoy talking to customers and helping to determine the company’s success as a salesperson.” Malte Schumann, Managing Director of the national subsidiary, and around 20 Mexican colleagues are supporting him – with his work visa, finding accommodation, and opening a bank account. He finds everything in the office “very well organized” and documented in the digital handbook. “Customs declarations and invoicing work differently than in Germany,” he says.

Language courses, which Markus Felix started in Germany and is continuing in Mexico, help him in everyday situations. “At work, I need different vocabulary,” he notes. By mid-2026, he wants to speak Spanish “very well” to surprise family and friends who will travel from Germany to visit him.
