Genoa: MED HUB LCL is a success story

Strong volume increase: Own groupage services up to 64 destinations worldwide.

Two years after founding the MED HUB LCL in Genoa (Italy), Glauc Fornes Gil, Regional Business Process Manager Mediterranean & Southern Africa Headquarters at a. hartrodt, reports on a success story: "Since the launch of our regional department for the consolidation of LCL shipments from the Mediterranean region in October 2022, we have been able to increase the volume managed by our own resources by 500 percent." The cargo originates from countries such as Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Turkey. The hub organizes weekly consolidated containers with goods that arrive at 64 destinations worldwide.

Adjacent 3,750-square-meter warehouse offers cold storage areas

At the MED HUB LCL, customers benefit from a 3,750 square meter warehouse with three temperature-controlled areas that cool down to minus 20 or 35 degrees Celsius. Directly on site, a. hartrodt also offers customs clearance with an area for temporary custody as well as packaging services. "The warehouse is only 30 minutes away from the port of Genoa," Logistics Manager Alessandro Grossi mentions as an advantage.

Advantages for European exporters and overseas importers

"In our own warehouse, we have full control over our consolidated containers and can serve customers with great agility," says Glauc Fornes Gil. "Shipments that are delivered a day late also arrive with us," adds Alessandro Grossi. Exporters from the Mediterranean shorten the transit time if they ship via the MED HUB LCL in Genoa instead of national ports. Importers in the Far East, Australia, Chile or South Africa who purchase from various European countries receive one consolidated shipment. In addition, the hub offers a reduction in transit time of ten to 15 days for urgent shipments from Northem Europe.

Apart from hazardous goods, a. hartrodt handles all product groups in Genoa – from spare parts to Italian wines and high-end furniture. The hub is expected to manage European wine shipments soon, with certifications anticipated for September, further diversifying its services. In two years, the MED HUB LCL has become a vital logistics node, offering unmatched control and efficiency for global shipments. As the hub grows and diversifies, it exemplifies a. hartrodt's commitment to innovation in logistics.
